The Office of Risk Management is charged with mitigating the risk of loss to the University through hazard identification, risk assessment, proper insurance coverage, and proactive risk management activities.
The range of responsibilities also includes coordination of the University’s occupational medicine program, the occupational safety and health program, emergency response plan, and the development of education support materials.
Emergency Response Plan
»Ê¼Ò»ªÈË’s Emergency response plan is intended to address comprehensively the issue of providing for the orderly evacuation of the University during emergency situations. The main goal of any evacuation is the rapid, systematic removal of all persons from potentially hazardous areas, to a safe assembly area, to account for all employees, students, visitors and guests, and to assure an all-clear of the evacuated area.

Injury and Illness Prevention Program
Under California law, requires every employer regardless of size to develop and implement an IIPP. The IIP Program is specific only to employee injuries and illnesses in the workplace.
Specifically, section 3203 requires that the employer’s plan must address eight elements: Responsibility, Compliance, Communication, Hazard Assessment, Accident/Exposure Investigation, Hazard Correction, Training and Instruction, and Recordkeeping. »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË maintains a program available for review by all employees.
Insurance/Filing a Claim
All questions related to insurance must be directed to the office of Risk Management. All claims to persons or property regardless of how small must be reported to the office of Risk Management as soon as possible. Workers Compensation claims must be reported immediately. The Risk Manager will contact Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies Claims intake center. All claims will be reported to »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË’s Workers Compensation Insurance Carrier by the Risk Manager. The claims office customer service representative will request the information included on the injury report worksheet.
